The winter transfer market proves to be a time of significant speculation and possible major deals. A number of notable players are being linked with moves out of their present clubs. We examine a selection of the major figures that might be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder might be set for a return to the Premier League after a period in Saudi Arabia. Now only 28, while his agreement expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a possible opportunity. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with the player. Additionally, there have been rumours from Spain that he would be prepared to accept a pay cut for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced Germany shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barça following new coach Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a January exit looks highly likely. Aston Villa were once mentioned as a potential suitor, but that option currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be expressing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific England centre-forward has continued finding the net regularly in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could enhance his fading chances of making the England squad. However, securing a transfer presents major challenges. His current club are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged huge weekly wages render any agreement complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been mentioned as admirers.

The exciting Turkish forward has been in excellent form for Juventus this term. As his existing contract running down, many English clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are desperate to tie down the youngster to a lengthy contract but face a battle to keep one of Europe's brightest prospects.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Dutch midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following starring at the U19 Euros, he has become a regular in the AZ first team. This teenager is heavily expected to make a big-money move in January. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but could face strong competition from Real Madrid for a deal priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
